Description

German Made, Serbian Model 1881 Bayonet For The Mauser Kokammilovanovicz M1881 Rifle By Weyersberg Solingen (1st German Made Bayonet To Have A Perfected Coil Spring Catch) & Scabbard. ED 2339

The Serbian Model 1881 Bayonet was the first German made bayonet to have the perfected coil-spring catch (see page 88 of The Bayonet An Evolution & History By RDC Evans /Frederick .J. Stephens, Militaria Publications 1985. NB A single A4 size photocopy of the page from the book that refers to the bayonet is included with this item). The bayonet has an 18 1/2" single edged blade (24" overall) which is fullered and has tapering flat back edge. The back of the blade has a small inspection mark. The blade has some staining consistent with age but no rust. The ricasso is marked by the manufacturer 'Gebr Weyersberg Solingen'. It has the correct crossguard with muzzle ring, undamaged wood grips and steel pommel with correct coil spring catch which works as it should. The bayonet is complete with it's original black leather scabbard with internal chape which has just the correct exposed tip and steel throat mount with single belt bar. All leather and stitching of the scabbard are intact. Price for this rare bayonet includes UK delivery. ED 2339
