This is an early 1802 New Land Pattern socket bayonet which has been converted of modified by the addition of an India style catch which has been secured by 2 screws at the front of the socket instead of the rear as usual, (see Skennerton, page 61 for a picture of a similar bayonet). The bayonet has an overall length of 510mm, a blade length of 390mm, socket length of 100mm and a muzzle ring diameter of 24.5mm. there is an inspection mark of consisting of a crown over 8 but no makers mark, (See Skennerton page 57).
