Boer War Era British 3 Rivet, 1st Type, 1st Pattern, P1888 Lee Metford Bayonet, Scabbard & 1911 Brown Leather Frog. Sn 12826 - 12826

This is a rare 3 rivet, 1st type, 1st Pattern, P1888 Lee Metford bayonet, scabbard and frog as used by British troops during the Boer Wars. This pattern was only in production for a short while, as it was found that the grips were likely to split due to the positioning of the two small rivets. It has its original wooden grips which are not split with the rare 3 brass rivets and oil hole in the wood grips. It's 12" double edged blade with medial ridge has Crown VR (Victoria Regina) with "V.R. 11/89" and inspection marks at the ricasso (illustrated). The reverse of the ricasso and back of the blade have inspection marks. The pommel is stamped with the number "65". It has its original black leather scabbard with steel locket and chape. Also included is an original brown leather frog and retaining strap with brass buckle. This is similar to No 102 in Anthony Carter's 'Bayonet, Belt, Frogs Part 1' book. It is stamped on the reverse with "F I.C.B. 786". There is also a makers name of "Jones" and "1911". Carter states that these frogs are usually found on 1888 and 1903 bayonets issued to Volunteer or Territorial Battalions. (see Skennerton's item B212Pages 168-174). All leather and stitching of the scabbard and frog are intact. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 12826
