INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an American Vietnam War era BDU-28B pineapple cluster bomb that was used extensively in the conflict. The bomblet was carried in SUU-24 bomb containers and when carried in a B52 bomber with two SUU-24 containers, it could dispense over 10,000 bomblets. The bomblets have a fold out fin assembly that stabilizes the bomblet to fall nose first. The nose is flat in shape so it could detonate on the ground, mud and water. Its main purpose however was against personnel and unarmoured targets. This is an inert American BDU-28B bomblet for instructional. The bomblet originally contained 250 steel pellets embedded in the explosive to give enhanced lethality against personnel. The bomblet retains all of its original red painted finish with the flat nose cap which is retained on by pressed lugs engaging on a circular depression at the nose of the bomblet.
