Description

INERT. This is a very rare, experimental, unfired German factory sectioned Dopp Z S45-125 clockwork time fuze in its original bakelite transit case. The fuze which has a long running time of 125 seconds is a Rheinmetall Sommerda fuze incorporating the Krupp Theil mechanical timer intended to be used in the long range 24, 28, 38 & 40 cm railway guns. These guns would have included the 24cm Skv30 Theodor, Otto/ 24cm – L40 Theodor Karl. The 28cm KL 40 Kurfurst, SKL/40 Bruno and the Haulbitze L/12, L/14 IR. The 38cm SKL/45 MAX super heavy/ siege guns. The fuse with its Junghans clockwork mechanism is undamaged in the original screwed base Bakelite transit container. The clockwork mechanism segments are all numbered 894. The brass and aluminium fuze is stamped round its circumference Dopp Z S45-125 Rhs 1940 (1940 date) and is also faintly stencilled in white 52D. The fuze is complete with its original dark brown bakelite transit case which has ZUNEERBUCHSE and 3 cast into the top of the casing and has cast into the bottom the makers monogram 1938 (1938 date) 4228. The screw off base is made of bakelite and has its original anti-rattle cardboard packing piece. The fuze case has a brown double sided description label cellotaped to the side giving details of the fuze and its use. See Hogg, German artillery of World War Two, pages 101 – 137. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert fuze in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 21333
