Description

~ Named 1827 Pattern Royal Navy Officer's Dress Sword and Scabbard By Gieves ~

The sword has a straight fullered blade and is proof marked on the edge.

The hilt’s hinged lock is named ‘H. J. Speak R.N.’.

The blade is decorated with etched with scrolling arabesques on both sides.

One side bears the fouled anchor beneath the crown, the British coat of arms and the proof star. The other bears King George V cypher under the crown and the manufacturer’s name ‘Gieves’.

The solid gilded hilt is decorated with fouled anchor and King’s Crown.

The grip is made of wire-bound shagreen with a lion shaped pommel.

It comes with its black leather scabbard with brass fittings and two suspension rings.

~ Dimensions ~

The overall length of the blade 31.29 inches (79.5 cm) long and the overall length of the sword and scabbard is 37 inches (94 cm).

The sword weighs 1.07 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The sword is in fair condition for its age.

The blade is partially clean. It developed some pitting in several places.

The basket and all the brass fittings on the sword are excellent, free of any damage.

The scabbard is excellent as seen in the pictures.
