A very rare percussion single barrel pistol engraved on the barrel TOWLSON NEWBURY (Wiltshire). Circa 1835-1840. The 5.5 inch barrel of approx .60 calibre. The lock-plate fitted with a rare early ignition system known as the Pill-Lock or Pellet-lock. Fitted with a front sight. Small escutcheon inlaid to the wrist. Chequered grip and plain steel trigger guard. One iron ramrod pipe and fitted with a swivel steel rammer. Overall length 10 inches. One screw in the hammer nose is damaged. In well used condition, an interesting example of a very rare early percussion ignition system.
