Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com Ref 3998. A fine example of a Colt model 1851 Navy .36 calibre Percussion revolver. Manufactured in 1866. The 7.5 inch octagonal barrel marked ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U. S. AMERICA. Marked Colts patent to the side of frame. The cylinder scene of the naval conflict still clearly visible. On the cylinder IS the wording ''Engaged 16 May 1843'' commemorating the Naval Battle of Campeche which took place on April 30, 1843 and May 16, 1843. The battle featured the most advanced warships of its day, including the Mexican steamer Guadalupe and the equally formidable Montezuma which engaged a squadron of vessels from the Republic of Yucatan and the Republic of Texas. You can see the flags of the young Texas Republic and the early Mexican colours flying from the masts engraved on the cylinder. The serial number identifies the year of manufacture as 1866. Overall length approx 14 inches. Nice crisp action. This is a good example of a U.S. Colt 1851 Navy revolver with the cylinder scene still clearly visible and retaining much of it's original blued finished. The handgun favored by most mounted troops was the 1851 Colt Navy. Ref 3998. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
