A scarce and high quality English 19th Century Percussion "Manstopper" pistol made by John Wiggan, England. The pistol is of a much larger calibre than most travelling pistols, at around .65 calibre. Engraved on the top of barrel with the gunmakers name John Wiggan. The finely chequered walnut butt fitted with an oval escutcheon. Heavy octagonal barrel, barrel length approx 3 inches. Good working order. The barrel with two proof marks. Action very crisp. Overall length approx 8 inches. Circa 1830-1840. Very good overall condition. This is an extremely good example of a high quality pistol carried for protection during the mid 19th century. Ref 9065.
