A German M1898 bayonet with quill backed blade measuring 20 1/2". It is stamped on the blade with the makers name of "V.C. Schilling Suhl". The back edge is stamped with a Crown over an "O" (King Otto of Bavaria) and a date "06" (1906) followed by an inspection stamp. The crossguard is stamped with regimental markings of "B.5.R.4.106" and the pommel is stamped with two Imperial inspection marks. The scabbard is the steel mounted leather version and this also carries two Imperial inspection stamps on the mouthpiece. As is usual with these scabbards there are a couple of kinks but the leather is rigid. The frog is similar to No 277 on page 23 of Anthony carter's bayonet Belt Frogs, Part 2' book and appears to have been with the bayonet all of its life. A very nice complete set. (see White & Watts No 256 page 114 & 119). The price includes UK delivery. Bayo 305
