~ A Pair of 19th Century Rifled Percussion Pistols by Manton of London ~
This is a beautifully decorated pair of 19th century Manton pistols.
The lock plates, barrel tangs and trigger guards have floral decorations and both grips are carved.
The hexagonal barrels are also decorated with silver inlays and the manufacturer’s name on the top of the barrel is inlayed in gold.
The wooden frame end fittings underneath the barrel are made of silver.
The hammers are dolphin shaped.
The lower end of the wooden grips is build with trapdoor steel fittings, used to reach the frame’s main screw and to store a musket ball.
Both grips are fitted with suspension rings.
Both pistols half cock, cock and fire with ease.
The ramrods are hinged.
The pistols calibre is 12 gauge (.73 cal) and are fitted with front and rear sights.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 7.5 inches (19 cm) and the overall length of a pistol is 13.5 inches (34.3 cm).
The pair weighs 1.9 kg.
~ Condition ~
The pistols are in good condition with some signs of use.
The metalwork has minimum amount of pitting but is rust free.
The gold inlay on the top of the barrel is partially lost
The woodwork has some amount of bruises and age wear but its overall condition is good, free of splits.
The percussion nipples were replaced at some point in time.
Both ram rods are loose and seem to be modern replacements.
