The Type 56-2 is an export-oriented development of the People's Republic of China's standard-issue Type 56, itself a licensed copy of the Soviet AKM pattern. Introduced in 1980, the Type 56-2 distinguishes itself from earlier variants by its side-folding steel buttstock, which collapses neatly over the receiver for compact carry. Built on a stamped receiver, it is chambered in 7.62x39mm and was produced principally for the export market, seeing only limited distribution within China itself — a fact that adds to its collector appeal in the West.

This example has been professionally deactivated to the current UK specification and is accompanied by its deactivation certificate. Condition throughout is excellent: the stamped steel metalwork retains strong finish, the furniture presents well, and the bore is in keeping with the overall grade. The original leather sling is included, a period-correct accessory increasingly difficult to find with examples at this grade.
