Zastava M53 general purpose machine gun, 7.92x57mm Mauser — a deactivated example of one of the most direct descendants of the legendary German MG42, supplied with deactivation certificate and original bipod.

Built at the state-owned Zastava Crvena Zastava factory using original German machinery and retaining the 7.92x57mm Mauser chambering, the M53 is a near-exact copy of the MG42, with the principal differences being a reduced cyclic rate of 950 rounds per minute and the removal of the anti-aircraft sight mount. Yugoslav engineers retained the MG42's roller locking system throughout, keeping the mechanical DNA of the wartime original entirely intact.

The M53 was known by the nickname Sarac among Yugoslav forces and served as the standard squad support weapon of the Yugoslav People's Army for decades. The M53 remained in service with the Yugoslav Army until 1999.
