Description

A very nice early 20thc Burmese dha in silver mounts with silver koftgari inlay blade.

The silver is not sterling 925 grade on this dha but likely around 900 - 880 as most Burmese silver items of this date usually are, so please if interested in this sword do understand that it will not test for 925 grade.

The blade of this sword is a good well made hand forged and likely laminated carbon steel, it has a hollow forged and ground central fuller that ends close to its tip, the fuller is made for lightness and to give the blade more strength.

At the top end of the blade closer to the hilt there is a silver koftgari inlay section in real silver with a typical Burmese scroll foliate design.

The top rounded spine of the blade has a distil taper from hilt to tip and along its length at 19 cm from the hilt it thins drastically to a top flat false edge which ends in a very nasty pointed tip, the blade shows good age patina and has not been over cleaned and is still very sharp.

The hilt is the silver p[art of the sword and is made in traditional form of tubular round section that widens to the ferrule where it meets the blade, the silver is thick and unlike many that are covered in sheet silver over wood, it has the typical Burmese scrolling designs on it and border bands in traditional south east Asian style.

The pommel is complete and undamaged which is very unusual for dha as they often are damaged or have the pommel missing.

The3 scabbard is traditional 2 sections of wood and in this case lacquered black wood with silver chape and scabbard collar, the 2 central bands with holes in them are made from a silver alloy and the scabbard also retains its original cord.

The blade of the sword has been oiled with Japanese choji oil.

There are a few very very minor almost unnoticeable niks in the blades edge but they are very small, I have to mention them here but they could easily be polished out if the new owner wanted, I don't mind doing this job but will charge for the work as it is a skill and is time consuming.
