~ Circa 1860 Bristol & Exeter Rail Truncheon ~
What we have here is an absolutely beautifully decorated and in almost perfect condition.
The truncheon is made of a hardwood and has been painted from the grip upwards, the grip is beautifully varnished and finished, bringing out a beautiful grain between the ribbed sections.
The section above the grip has been painted a glossy black with lettering and a crown in gold and deep red paint. The crown is an incredibly detailed depiction of the crown of Queen Victoria with the letters ‘BER’ for Bristol & Exeter Rail with the numeral ‘27’ underneath.
This is one of the best truncheons that has passed through the Antiques Storehouse and as well as being rather rare a find it is also in brilliant condition for its age.
