Who and What is Catawiki?

Catawiki is a large auction platform that was founded by two Dutch entrepreneurs, René Schoenmakers, a passionate comic book collector, and Marco Jansen, a developer. The idea for the company was born after Schoenmakers was trying to find ways to keep track of his collection of comic books.

As a result, they created Catawiki in 2008 as an online platform where collectors could interact with each other and keep track of their collections. The name Catawiki is a combination of the words ‘catalogue’ and ‘wiki’.

Catawiki started hosting weekly online auctions in 2011 to help members find special objects that were missing from their collections. The auction model soon gained momentum, the company grew internationally and it quickly expanded from collectables into luxury goods and one-off, special objects.

Catawiki, now headquartered in Amsterdam, has operations in over 60 countries.  It is one of Europe's most-visited destinations for collectables, art, design, jewellery, watches, and classic cars, among others. (Including, of course, the excellent examples of militaria, medals and antique firearms).

What makes Catawiki special is its use of “experts” who carefully consider the special objects offered for auction each month. They select and review only the best items, and ensure the highest of quality standards. Buyers and Sellers across the globe come to Catawiki, confident that Catawiki lives up to its mission statement of “fulfilling people’s passions by connecting them to the objects they love” Both buyers and sellers can also trust that Catawiki is a secure payment platform, and backed up by a dedicated international support team.

Today Over 250,000 objects are on sale every month viewed by +15 million unique visitors. Catawiki is growing double digits year after year. Of course, they have kept their eye on the detail. The Militaria team contains both experts in medals and military equipment, and also experts in weaponry. This gives both sellers and buyers the confidence that things will be handled properly.

With all this being said it’s easy to see why Buying and Selling at Catawiki makes for a great experience, so why not sign up today and join them on this wonderful journey!
