These are an original cased pair of WW1 German Army, 6 X 39 Magnification, Field Binoculars. These binoculars were developed in response to a 1916 German Government contract for issue to Non Commissioned Officers and were produced until the end of the Great War in 1918 (see page 20 of ‘Military Binoculars & Telescopes For Land Sea & Air Service’ by Seeger where a similar cased example to ours is illustrated). The Binoculars have the correct finish with adjustable eyepieces. The cast body of the binoculars have lanyard bars fitted with original leather neck strap. The adjustment dial is crisply marked with manufacturer and serial number. One hinge arm is stamped ‘K’ (a Spandau GPK rifle inspection office acceptance mark) and the other hinge arm has a very small date mark ‘XI 16’ denoting November 1916 (all illustrated). All optics are excellent and function as they should. The Binoculars are contained in their fitted sturdy leather hard case with hinged lid rear belt loops each impressed with matching manufacturer detail and hanging bar for shoulder strap. The lid is secured by leather tabs on the left and right sides of the case which attach to metal suds on the lid. The inside of the lid has its original paper instructions label with printed German text (all illustrated). The price includes UK delivery. OPT 840
