The tip staff is one of the earliest forms of Police authority, carried by the early Constables/ Watchmen as signs of their authority and right to enforce law. This is an excellent original George III Tipstaff/stave. The wood staff which is 10 1/2" in length overall is painted black with gold edging and the upper panel with George III stylised 'GIIIR' (George III Regina). The shaft of the staff tapers and has a ball end pommel. All of it's original paint is present and the wood has just the minor bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use.
