A good 2 inch wide blade approx 14.5 inches in length. Almost certainly an American Civil War era piece circa 1860-65. The wide double edged blade is 14.5 inches long. One piece ribbed wooden grip with a solid brass cross-guard and brass pommel cap. The name "Capt. G.C. Hughes, Jackson. TN. is engraved into the top scabbard mount. Black tooled leather scabbard of the type found typically on knives of the 1860's American era. This knife shows signs of genuine use and some minor wear. An excellent example of a great authentic 19th century massive knife of the type carried by Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War and especially unusual with a name and town engraved. Very good condition. No other visible marks or makers name. Overall length 21 inches in scabbard. Ref 2181.
