Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2897. A very rare Flintlock brass barrelled pistol manufactured by COLLUMBELL dating from Circa 1735-1765. The lock plate engraved with the maker's name COLLUMBELL (David Collumbell had a gunsmith's workshop in Parliament street, Westminster, London circa 1735 - 1765). London proof marks stamped on the flared brass barrel. The 9 inch barrel engraved COLLUMBELL LONDON. Nicely pierced brass side-plate. Brass butt cap, trigger guard, ramrod pipes & an oval brass escutcheon. Action in good working order. In very good condition with hardly any signs of wear and use. A very rare and early pistol. This maker was also at the right period in history to have his pistols carried during the American Revolutionary war as his work-shop in London supplied pistols up until 1765 and the Revolutionary war started only 10 years later in 1775. David Collumbell may have been of Huguenot descent; he was apprenticed to the gunmaker Gerrett Johnson, in 1712 and after obtaining his freedom worked in the area around Westminster. He was appointed Gunmaker in Ordnance in 1756. Ref 2879. This pistol is the identical pair to one that we sold just a year ago to a well known American dealer and that pistol has since gone missing whilst in transit to the USA so if you should know the whereabouts of the missing COLUMBELL flintlock pistol we will be very grateful for any information. Thank you. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
