A rare English Queen Anne style silver mounted Flintlock pistol made by GILL of RICHMOND. Circa 1810. The screw-off barrel approx 5.5 inches in length inscribed in script under the pan with the makers name and town GILL RICHMOND. The breech is also stamped underneath with 2 London proof marks. Robert Gill & son had a workshop at Market place in Richmond, North Yorkshire circa 1810-1833). The butt cap fitted with a large silver grotesque mask. The walnut butt inlaid with a large silver side-plate and a shaped silver escutcheon surmounted with a helmet. An excellent example of the type of fine quality weapon carried by a Gentleman or officer during the mid-18th Century. Good condition and working order. Overall length 12 inches.
