A scarce French Military Officer's percussion Pistol originally manufactured as a flintlock pistol circa 1777 and converted to percussion probably around 1840-1860 as the older style ignition systems became out-dated and replaced by percussion. This pistol was manufactured at one of the French Military arsenals during the Napoleonic era. These French pistols are known to have been imported into the USA and many were carried and used during the American Revolutionary war and subsequently the U.S. Civil War circa 1861-1865. Rounded military brass skull-crusher butt-cap, matching military style trigger-guard. Complete with its correct steel ramrod. The letters R & M stamped on the side of the barrel. Approx .69 calibre. Overall length 14 inches. Good condition and working order. A few minor dings and marks, otherwise a very nice example without any major damage. Ref 3172.
