Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3237. A scarce Irish flintlock pocket pistol by George Pepper of Dublin. Circa 1750-1800. The lock engraved with the makers name G. Pepper, the barrel engraved Dublin. George Pepper had a workshop in Dublin circa 1750-1800 followed by his son also George who had a workshop in Abbey street Dublin, circa 1828-1834. 3.5 inch octagonal barrel and side mounted lock. Chequered wooden grips. Two proof marks to the underside of the frame and an Irish Census mark stamped on top of the barrel- D-N 4161. (This marking is for the area of County Down, these marks are to be found stamped on the top of gun barrels of arms registered under the Ireland Arms Act of 1843, County letters followed by a numeral or numerals). Overall in worn but reasonably good condition with some dings and scratches. Nice crisp action and very strong spring. Overall length approx 8 inches. Calibre approx .58 cal. This type of pistol was often carried for personal protection during the 18th-19th century when Highway robbery was commonplace. Ref 3237.
