A rare English Queen Anne style iron framed Silver Mounted Flintlock pistol made by CLARKE of LONDON. Circa 1730-1766. The screw-off barrel approx 4.5 inches in length engraved at the breech with LONDON. The breech is also stamped underneath with 2 London proof marks and the makers name inscribed in script under the pan "CLARKE". (Possibly JOHN CLARKE of London, he had a workshop at 133 Holborn Hill London circa 1783). The butt cap fitted with a large silver grotesque mask. The walnut butt inlaid with a silver side-plate and a shaped silver escutcheon. An excellent example of the type of weapon carried by a Gentleman or officer during the 18th Century. Good condition and working order. Overall length 11 inches. A superb collectors item. Ref 3384. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
