Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3421. A rare Scottish Ram's horn Highlander's all steel flintlock pistol engraved on the lock-plate MARSHALL & SONS 87 George Street, EDINBURGH. Barrel engraved on top with floral decoration. This is a very rare and high quality Highland dress pistol and is engraved overall. Marshall & sons were in business at 87 George Street, Edinburgh around c.1780. Round partly fluted barrel approx 7 inches long, terminating in a fluted muzzle. With its correct steel ramrod, bore approx .45. Flat sided typical all steel grips engraved with motifs to each side and a plain central panel for the owners crest. Showing no signs of use or wear. Complete with its original spring steel belt hook & ball trigger. Good condition and working order. This is the type of pistol that would have been carried by a wealthy Scottish Highlander for personal protection and at special occasions wearing the full Highland dress, during the 18th & 19th centuries. Action in good working condition. King George 4th of England was painted wearing this style of pistol when he visited the Royal Highland pageant in Edinburgh at the invitation of Sir Walter Scott in c.1822. A very rare Scottish pistol with excellent engraving and in good untouched condition with all parts original. One of the best we have seen in 54 years. Ref 3421.
