A very rare & high quality 17th century English silver hilted rapier or gentleman's small-sword, the hilt with deeply chiselled figures. This sword is quite unusual as the figures are rather strange looking? The hilt with much embossed silver decoration some within panels. The double edged blade pierced within the fullers. The hilt comprising a circular chiselled silver pommel struck with a very clear silver hall mark, also silver makers mark GS. (Please see photos) Nice quality silver wire-bound grip, one pas-d'ane ring now removed. Silver knuckle bow and two superb silver shell guards with much embossed figural decoration. The blade approximately 29 inches in length. Little sign of wear to the silver. The grip-wire loose, otherwise in excellent overall condition. A fine addition to any collection.
