Circa 1865 - 1880. The top of the frame engraved "REMINGTON'S. ILION, N.Y PATD. OCT.1.1861. NOV 15, 1864. Walnut grips. 2.5 inch barrel. Invented by William H. Elliot, this unusual Remington pistol featured a hammer that also serves as a breech block. Also known as the "Saw Handle Derringer". A total of only 15,000 of these single shot pistols were produced between 1865 and 1880. Overall length 5.5 inches. In good working order and condition showing traces of original finish and very little sign of use. These were very popular with gamblers of the time as they were very easy to conceal. Ref 2678.
