Late 19th Century British Officer’s Private Purchase Webley N0.4 (Pryse Pattern) .450 Calibre Revolver By Rigby Dublin & London With Period Leather Holster**UK/EU DEACTIVATION CERTIFICATED**Sn 18168:11 - 18168:11

In 1877 Webley & Son manufactured a new range of self extracting revolvers which embraced some new design features originated by Charles Pryce Junior including connection of barrel to the breech by an arrangement of twin levers which formed tongs to engage with an extension of the barrel strap. Pinching the tongs allowed the pistol to break open for loading of the cylinder (see page 102 of ‘Webley Revolvers by Bruce & Reinhart and page 108 where Pryse pattern revolvers are illustrated. John Rigby & Company (or John Rigby & Co. (Gunmakers) Ltd) has a distinguished history of technological advancement for both sporting and military application. Rigby rifles, guns and pistols have played prominent roles throughout the British Empire and particularly in Asia and Africa. The company was established by the first John Rigby in Dublin, Ireland in 1775. After the founding John Rigby's death, in 1818, his sons William and John Jason Rigby operated the business. This is an excellent, original, Late 19th Century British Officer's private purchase Webley No.4 Pryse Pattern .450 calibre revolver by Rigby of Dublin & London. Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2020, it has cut but open cylinders that will accept inert rounds, its trigger rotates the cylinder and the hammer can be moved separately. The top of the frame is signed ‘John Rigby & Co Dublin & London. The frame has a triangular cartouche with ‘Patent 6007’ within alongside a small inspection mark. It has the correct 5 ½” barrel with top rib and is 11 ¼” overall length’. The pistol has a blade fore sight and grooved frame rear sight. The pistol has its original un-damaged finely chequered walnut grip and military lanyard ring fitted with replacement lanyard ring. The pistol comes with its period brown leather holster in which it was found. The holster has a flap cover with brass stud that fastens to a retaining strap with eyelet on the body of the holster. The rear of the holster has a large belt loop and brass hanger bar. All leather and stitching of the holster are intact. The price for this rare revolver with period holster includes UK/EU deactivation certificate and UK delivery. Sn 18168:11
