Straight blade with double fuller. Steel interchangeable pierced basket hilt, brown leather lasher. Spiral grip of wood covered with shagreen bound with wire. All metal parts have been nickel-plated. Steel scabbard with two hanging rings, its chape with ball finial.
The blade is strongly etched with motifs of thistle flowers with leaves, the crown and royal cypher of Edward VII (which dates it to between 1901 and 1910) and a six-pointed star proof mark with a ‘PROVED’ slug bearing a fleur-de-lis.
There is minor wear to the plating of the blade, mainly at the tip and on the ricasso. The shagreen of the grip is very good, with no significant losses. The scabbard has more significant losses to its nickel plating, with patina to the revealed steel beneath and some small areas of pitting.
