1878 British Enfield Tower 2 Band .577 Snider Calibre Sergeant’s Short Rifle With Sling, British Pattern 1856 Yataghan Bayonet By A&EH & Scabbard. Sn 16805 - 16805

When the breech loading Snider mechanism was introduced in 1866, many Enfield percussion long arms were converted to the new system. Enfield 2-band short rifles were issued to British Army Sergeants. This is an excellent example of the Enfield Tower Snider short rifle. The action plate is stamped With Queens Crown (Victoria) and by the manufacturer 'Tower 1878'. It has excellent all original wood work, steel butt plate, forend block, bayonet bar and trigger guard with extended tang. The rifle also has its original ramrod, ladder rear sight, block and blade fore sight and sling swivels fitted with webbing sling. The barrel has a clean bore, crisp rifling and is stamped with proof marks. Total length is 49" with a 33" barrel. The hinged breech plate with press button release catch is faintly marked with Snider patent & arrow mark. The firing action works perfectly. The rifle comes with an original correct Pattern 1856 Yataghan Bayonet & Scabbard. The bayonet has an undamaged clean yataghan form blade and measures 28" overall. The blade and hilt have inspection marks (illustrated) and the cross guard numbered ‘184’. It's black grips are secure and undamaged. The bayonet's leather scabbard has steel a locket and chape. This is an antique obsolete calibre rifle and no licence is required to own it in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 16805
