Vietnam Era U.S. Special Forces 'Nata' Design Fighting Knife / Machete & Sheath. Sn 13871:6 - 13871:6

This is a Japanese made Nata design fighting knife / machete. These knives were popular with U.S. troops and Special Forces serving in Vietnam. They found the 18" U.S. machetes unsuited to their particular kind of fighting. This style was so popular, that it served to influence the development of the larger Square Tip and SOG Bolo machetes. The overall length of the knife is 14 1/2 inches, the blade is 7 1/2 inches long, and 2 1/4 inches wide. The edge is hewer cut, that is bevelled only on one side. The flat side has a visible temper line and fuller. The other side is a chiselled design with Japanese symbols. The wooden handle has a ferrule and the handle is cut to accept the blade and is secured with two steel pins. The blade is very sharp. The overall condition of the knife is excellent. The scabbard is made of wood and is covered with brown leather. All stitching is intact. Riveted belt loop is present but the retention strap is broken on one side. (see 'The Military Knife & Bayonet' book by Homer M. Brett, page 327). The price includes UK delivery. Sn 13871:6
