Saddleworth is a civil parish of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in the now Greater Manchester. An invasion scare in 1859 led to the creation of the Volunteer Force and huge enthusiasm for joining local Rifle Volunteer Corps (RVCs). This is an original Victorian Saddleworth Rifle Volunteers Officer’s Dress Sword Belt black Morocco leather three section belt joined by brass rings. It has a darkened brass two piece belt buckle with ornate shoulders. Circlet inscribed “Saddleworth. God and Fatherland” and central strung bugle horn. It is complete with two black Morocco leather sword hanging straps complete with brass buckles and lower sprung securing clips.
