Description

WW2 British Home Front “Sunblem Battery” Factory Workers Steel Helmet, blue / grey painted British steel helmet with the three drill holes to the brim, indicating not suitable for front line service. The helmet has a small oval decal to the centre. Complete with its webbing chinstrap. The Brodie helmet is a steel combat helmet designed and patented in London in 1915 by John Leopold Brodie (1873–1945). It was called the shrapnel helmet, battle bowler, Tommy helmet, tin hat, dishpan hat, tin pan hat, washbasin, battle bowler (when worn by officers), and Kelly helmet. In 1936 the MK1 helmet was fitted with a new and improved liner and a new elasticated or sprung webbing chinstrap added, this final variant served until 1939/40 when it was superseded by the slightly modified MK2 variant.
