The original Colt Dragoon was a .44 calibre single-action percussion revolver designed by Samuel Colt for the U.S. Army's Regiment of Mounted Rifles in 1848. Produced through to 1860 in three principal variants, the Dragoon saw service during the California Gold Rush, the exploration of the American West, and the early years of the Civil War, before being superseded by the Colt Model 1860. Its sheer size and authority made it one of the defining sidearms of mid-19th century America. This example presents with a pleasing, well-worn authentic finish that adds genuine character and period atmosphere. The piece has been deactivated to current EU specification; the action cannot be cocked or dry fired. Supplied with its deactivation certificate.
A handsome display piece of real visual impact, appealing equally to the Western enthusiast, the Civil War collector, and anyone drawn to the golden age of American percussion arms.
