The PSL — Pusca Semiautomatic cu Luneta — entered Romanian military service in 1974, developed at Uzina Mecanica Cugir after the Soviet Union declined to transfer SVD Dragunov production licences following Romania's political break with Moscow in 1968. The result was a pragmatic, robust DMR that served all branches of the Romanian armed forces and has since seen operational use across numerous conflicts worldwide. A 1979-production example with matching military optic and full furniture represents the rifle exactly as issued.
