Description

INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a mint quarter sectioned Mills No.36M MK 1, hand grenade made by the Royal Ordnance Factory, Patricroft in 1972, which was the last year the Mills 36M hand grenade was made before it was withdrawn from service by the British Army to be replaced by the L series of grenades. The 36M refers to the pattern of Grenade 36 M, originally 'Mesopotania' and the fact they were waterproofed. The grenade has a cast iron body with a cast alloy primer holder, filling plug and baseplate. The baseplate is stamped No 36M MK1 1972 (1972 date) ROF (P) (Royal Ordnance Factory, Patricroft). The fly off lever is stamped ROF (P) (Royal Ordnance Factory, Patricroft). The grenade retains its original varnished finish to the body and has a 20mm wide yellow ring round its circumference. The grenade is fitted with a dummy primer. See pages 111-119 in ‘GRENADE’ British & Commonwealth Hand & Rifle Grenades by Rick Landers. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert grenade in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 2047
