Description

INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a scarce unfired British WW2 1944 dated 77MM H.V. (High Velocity) (76.2 x 420R) Armour Piercing /Trace (AP/T) round for the British Comet tank. This gun enabled the British Comet tank to upgrade its main gun from a 57mm, 6 pound, 7 cwt gun to a high velocity 3 inch (76.2MM) gun that was developed by Vickers in WW2, The cartridge case is based on the 3 inch 20 cwt case dimensions and was shorter than the 17 pounder case. The 77mm HV gun fired the same projectiles as the 17 pound gun used in the Sherman Firefly, Archer converted from the Valentine tank, Achilles and the American M10 / M10A1 tanks as well as the 17 Pdr towed anti-tank gun. This Armour Piercing /Trace (APC/T) round is headstamped on the brass cartridge case 77MM I LOT36 RLB (Royal Laboratories) 1944 (1944 date) SR (Cordite Reduced Charge). The APC projectile is stamped round its circumference FS (Forged Steel) H LTD 11.44 (November 1944 date) AO. The projectile has two copper driving bands, the top band is stamped APCBC 17Pr&77mm VIIIT. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert round in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 2071
