The fuze was used in the British 3.7, 4.5 & 5.25 inch anti-aircraft guns which were the standard heavy anti-aircraft gun used from 1938 throughout WW2. This clockwork fuse superseded the No 199 powder fuze in 1942 with a maximum running time of 43 seconds. This fuze is complete with its soldered tinplate waterproof transit container. The fuze is made of a brass body with an alloy upper part and a bakelite nosecone. The fuze was set by means of an automatic fuse setter on the gun. The fuze is from its original sealed factory transit container and has been opened to reveal a factory fresh WW2 number 208 fuze. The main body of the fuze is graduated to 28 and the upper alloy part is stamped round the circumference 208MKI BUS45 (1945 date) LOT A E 37321. The base of the fuze has a screw on protective cap which is removed to fit the gaine. The fuze is complete with its five piece soldered tinplate waterproof transit container and soldered tap pull off piece to hold and seal the lid to the tin. The tin is stamped on the lid and the bottom NO208 II MB12 . This fuse is in excellent condition. See Hogg, British and American Artillery of World War 2, pages 107 to 115. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert fuze in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 2007
