This is a quality bowie knife by John Nowill & Sons of Sheffield who have been making quality knives in Sheffield since 1700. The family have traded under various names until John Nowill acquired the cross keys trademark in 1842. This kife has a 6 inch blade which is marked on the blade with JOHN NOWILL & SONS LTD SHEFFIELD EST A.D 1700 flanked with the cross keys and * over D. the knife has a brass crossguard which is secured by 2 brass rivets and wooden rosewood grips which are all secured by 5 brass rivets. The sheath is mad of brown leather with a retaining strap and press stud fastener at the top. ED 2406
