An interesting rifle which looks to of had started out life as a possibly a private purchase Martini Henry. This example has been "Arabicized" and is a likely Afghan bring-back. These unique embellishments would have been added by its owner with this one having some fine handcrafted silver work that stands out nicely against the woodwork. The receiver has feint ornate hand engravings on either side. Note the hand wound silver wire behind the rear sight. . Its looks to be a fairly early Martini with short lever and cocking indicator, unusually only found on MK1 & MKIIs. The consistent wear on the left side of the rifle and the ovaling of the sling mount suggest that this rifle has been carried a lot, possibly hung from a horn of saddle as the sling is too short to be carried over the shoulder.
