A very scarce British 6 shot bar-hammer .40 calibre percussion pepper-box revolver of unusually large size, made by Snowdon of Alnwick. Circa 1840-1845. Engraved on the back-strap with the gun-makers name Snowdon Alnwick. George Snowden had a workshop at 30 Narrowgate, Alnwick, Northumberland circa1883-1858. The side-plates and and bar hammer decoratively engraved. Iron trigger guard. Birmingham proof marks to the 6 inch barrels. Butt trap in the bottom of the butt for storage of percussion caps. Finely chequered grip fitted to the rear with an oval escutcheon. Action in working order. Some very minor signs of wear and use, otherwise in extremely good condition. This pepper-box is a most unusual size and is a very rare item. Overall length 9 inches. Ref 3331. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
