Circa 1800. ''TOWER” mark stamped to the lock-plate, showing that it was manufactured at the Tower of London armoury. Crown over GR for George 111 is engraved on the lock plate. George the Third was King of England from 1760 to 1820 and was monarch during some of the most turbulent years in British military history, mainly due to the lengthy wars going on in the Peninsular campaigns against the French led by Napoleon Bonaparte, as well as the uprising against the British crown in the USA, known as the American Revolutionary War. Fully stocked in walnut with a horn tipped wooden ramrod, brass butt cap, side-plate, trigger guard and ramrod pipes. The 9 inch steel barrel with British proof marks and with some light to moderate pitting. The letters RHK 7 carved into the stock. Overall length 14.5 inches. Action in working order. A small repair to the stock towards the butt, otherwise in good overall condition. this pistol could quite possibly have been carried at the battle of Waterloo. Ref 3661. The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815 between the French Army led by Napoleon Bonaparte and a coalition led by the Duke of Wellington for Great Britain, & Marshal Blücher of Germany. The decisive battle of its age, it concluded the Napoleonic wars that had raged for 23 years, it ended all French attempts to dominate Europe, and destroyed Napoleon's imperial power forever.
