But airgun technology is progressing at a very impressive rate - maybe it’s time to buy a brand new one? There have been some very special models released so far this year and many more are on the way - we’ve got 5 of the best airguns released in 2021 for you right here...
Daystate Red Wolf Heritage
Available Calibres: .177, .22, .25, .30
Weight: 3.5kg
Orientation: Ambidextrous Stock
Power: Up to 50 ft/lbs (40 shots in .25)
Price: £2,749.99
You would be very lucky to get your hands on one of these! The Red Wolf Heritage is an absolute beauty; a special limited edition released exclusively this year. Daystate has only produced 250 of this model in total, so being an owner is kind of a big deal. The laminate wood stock is mesmerising - combined with elements of bronze and carbon fibre for a truly breathtaking appearance. What’s more, Daystate doesn’t just focus on looks. The performance and technology of the Red Wolf are recognised globally as some of the best.
It’s an electronically powered air rifle that allows you to change power and trigger settings, which just makes you trust it so much more. It also uses two of Daystate’s most successful innovations; an A.R.T Barrel (Accuracy Research Team) and MCT (Mapped Compensation Technology) which make sure that every single shot is as accurate and consistent as the last.
It comes in with a considerable price tag but we can assure you, it would be money well spent!
Air Arms S510T Tactical
Available Calibres: .177 & .22
Weight: 2.8kg
Orientation: Ambidextrous Stock
Power: Up to 12 ft/lbs
Price: £1,349.99
The next on our list comes in at less than half the price of the Red Wolf, but is arguably just as competent in terms of performance. Air Arms are an expert in producing match-grade air rifles and have been the primary advocates for FT and HFT shooting across the world in recent years. The new S510T Tactical is designed to be perfect for both of these disciplines, but its additional tactical design makes it one of the most versatile rifles on the market. The various grip styles and adjustable features allow you to use the S510T optimally in just about any situation/environment. Another huge advantage of this model is that it weighs in at just 2.8kg and is less than a metre long - in terms of manouverability it’s one of the best out there.
Weihrauch HW35 Laminate
Available Calibres: .177 & .22
Weight: 3.8kg
Orientation: Right-Handed Stock
Power: Up to 12 ft/lbs
Price: £573
We’ve got another limited edition model up next and this one is a little different. There are only 215 of these in the world, making it even more rare than the last two on the list! Weihrauch is a name everyone should’ve heard of, offering affordable airguns crafted with German efficiency which has made them a staple name within the UK industry for almost 45 years.
The HW35 is a break-barrel springer with impressive pedigree. Some would call it a vintage considering its notoriety within the airgunning scene, but that doesn’t mean it’s performance is outdated at all. The HW35 has been tweaked regularly throughout the last few decades to cement its place as a go-to option for many shooters. Key components that have been added in recent years are a 2 stage match-grade trigger and a barrel alignment system that prioritises accuracy at all times. This special laminate edition is a beautiful silver stallion with a grey laminate wood stock and stainless finish on both the barrel and silencer - quite a sensational look for less than £600!
BSA Ultra CLX
Available Calibres: .177 & .22
Weight: 2.6kg
Orientation: Ambidextrous Stock
Power: Up to 12 ft/lbs
Price: £599
BSA is very proud of this one - the Ultra CLX has been engineered with dedication and precision, right down to the last detail. BSA itself describes the CLX as being ‘160 years in the making’; a statement that really gets the mouth watering. The latest innovation from Birmingham Small Arms is its ‘Monoblock Platform’ which focuses on using less working parts to massively improve how efficient and reliable its rifles are. Previously the Ultra SE was BSA’s flagship sporting model and the CLX is expected to perform at a considerably higher level, which is mighty impressive. It features a new 12-shot magazine with a countdown window, a fully adjustable trigger and BSA’s comfiest stock yet, designed in partnership with Minelli.
For around £600 the Ultra CLX massively outperforms its value and is a hot rival for any high-value airgun on the market.
Crosman Benjamin Akela
Available Calibres: .22 & .177
Weight: 3.5kg
Orientation: Ambidextrous Stock
Power: Up to 12 ft/lbs
Price: £473
Crosman have been pivotal in bringing the famous Benjamin shooting brand from the USA to the UK - the new Akela model is an affordable PCP bullpup with plenty of built-in features. It features a 14-shot magazine which is more efficient than any other airgun on our list. The barrel has a sound suppressor integrated to allow covert shooting with ease. The Picatinny rail is compatible with most scopes and sights, so you can complete your setup in full. Its Turkish Walnut stock adds a touch of class, but also makes it considerably heavy for its size at 3.5kg.
