Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com Ref 3715. A rare LONDON marked Manhattan 5 shot .36 calibre Percussion Revolver. Circa 1859-1868. The Manhattan Fire Arms Manufacturing Co. was founded by a group of New Jersey businessmen in 1856. Their goal was to take advantage of Colt’s patent for revolving firearms that was due to expire in 1857. The founders hired Thomas Bacon to become the Superintendent of Manufacturing. The company first began in Norwich, Connecticut and in 1859 moved to Newark, New Jersey. The 6.5 inch blued barrel marked with the address Manhattan Fire Arms Co. Newark N. J. Patented March 8, 1864. The blued cylinder clearly displaying the five scenes within ovals panels with military and naval scenes. The side of frame is also stamped with London proof marks. All matching serial numbers. Action in good working order. In extremely good condition retaining much of it's original blued finish. (Manhattan revolvers for some reason almost always turn up in well worn condition. This is a very rare piece simply because of its great condition). A fine example of a civil war era Manhattan percussion revolver. Ref 3715. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
