A very rare Napoleonic period First Empire officer's sword circa 1792-1800, it is a rare superior officer's sword of the Napoleonic period, this pattern sword we believe to be one of the French Imperial Guard or government official. Almost certainly carried just before and during the time of the battle of Waterloo in June 1815. Brass hilt and knuckle guard, the cross guard mounted with very large brass langets embossed with two plaques showing Hercules wrestling with a Lion. Complete in its original scabbard with two hanging rings. No visible maker marks. 31 inch blade engraved with various devices including a sun-burst. There are no date markings. A highly desirable and rare pattern sword. The grip of black chequered wood inlaid with a brass plaque to either side. Some dents to the scabbard, otherwise in very reasonable condition.
